Biography

Dr. Issam Shaarani is a family physician, Associate Professor of Family Medicine at Beirut Arab University, and Consultant in Family Medicine at the Primary Health Care Corporation in Qatar. He served as Chief of Staff and Senior Advisor to the Lebanese Minister of Public Health (2021–2022) and was the founding Medical Director of the Beirut Arab University Healthcare Center. He is Chair Elect of the WONCA Working Party on Ethics and Professionalism and a member of the editorial board of BMC Health Services Research. He holds an MSc in Epidemiology from the American University of Beirut and is completing a PhD in Health Economics and Policy at Lancaster University. His research focuses on digital health and telemedicine, refugee health, and health financing. He is a recipient of the Montegut Award of the American Board of Family Medicine.
