Biography
Said El Shamieh is Professor of Human Statistical Genetics at Beirut Arab University and adjunct researcher at the Institut de la Vision, Sorbonne Université. He received his Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) from Sorbonne Université in 2026 for his work on the genetics of inherited retinal disorders. His research also addresses pharmacogenomics.
He served as Team Leader on an Erasmus+ project that developed online postgraduate programs in Lebanon and Egypt, a collaborative effort connecting education, policy, and clinical care while building regional capacity in precision medicine.
He has authored 83 peer-reviewed publications and holds a granted patent (WO2013093091). He remains committed to translational impact, providing genetic testing and counseling to patients with inherited retinal disorders and their families. His editorial and peer-review roles support the dissemination of rigorous science.
